On our One-On-One segment, we get to host the lovely Miss Joy Kendi, a fashion and lifestyle content creator based in Nairobi Kenya. We caught up with the vibrant content creator via mail as she shares her love for the creative space.
Kindly tell us something about Joy Kendi?
My name is Joy Kendi. I am a fashion and lifestyle content creator. I’ve been doing this for over 10 years and I am grateful every day.
Could you take us through a day in your life from possible morning routine through to your work? Do you have a fixed schedule?
My schedule isn’t fixed. It varies day by day. Depending on whether it is shooting day. Editing day or….
How would you schedule your posting-related tasks?
It mainly depends on what clients I have that week. that is how I plan it. Some brands prefer certain days or time and I plan according to that.
What is your daily skincare ritual?
Washing face with cleanser. High exfoliation with a glove, gently drying. Toning. Serums, sunscreen, and moisturizers.
Who is your #1 Beauty Icon?
What’s one part of the Beauty Industry that you wish you could change?
Accessibility to more good quality brands at an affordable price in Kenya.
What beauty product would you love to see that hasn’t been made yet?
More sunscreens made for black skin that doesn’t leave white cast.
What’s your favorite color to wear?
Depends on the day. Don’t have a favourite colour.
How do you stay mentally and inspirationally aligned?
Having friends and family I can speak to when I need to.
As a YouTuber are there any features of your own life unavailable for consumption?
Yes, my personal life. I try to not involve people in my relationship and personal family things.
It’s amazing how you’re mostly the one who edits your own video. Which unpaid video editing packages have you utilized so far?
I would recommend Inshot. Its free but to use other features you need to pay. Or Imovie on MacBooks.
What projects are you most proud of and why?
Honestly, I can’t pick one. They are all special to me in different ways.
On your YouTube channel you have also done some travel blogs? What’s your favorite place you’ve visited?
I didn’t do a travel vlog on this. But Seychelles.
How do you ensure your video blogs connect with your viewers?
I just stay true to myself and mainly focus my work on why most people started to follow me.
What strategies do you use to market your vlogs?
I try to keep it simple. Sharing on my social media pages with stories once they are up.
Your Tiktok videos are lit btw. You dabble into comedy and content creation. How do you balance all the acts?
I kind of just go with my vibe. I don’t overthink it. One video will be comedy. Another fashion. Just whatever floats my boat at the time.
Since we’ve know you from your early acting days, are you still active in acting?
No, I am not.
Who/What would you say inspires you the most?
Honestly, I hate this question. Inspiration changes over time. One thing that has stayed, is the fact that I love what I am doing and I can’t see myself doing anything else. Maybe adding more things to my career but I love content creation. But a big inspiration is not wanting to be broke again. Been there. I hated it.
You also happen to be an entrepreneur. What do you enjoy most about it?
Just took a pause. That’s all.
What is one message you would give to your fans?
I hate calling them fans. They are just my people. But Thank you for making all this possible for me.
Lastly your social media handles, Where can people find and connect with you?
