Nasibi is a rising Afro-RnB singer-songwriter, recording, and performing artist based in Nairobi. Known for his extraordinary ability to craft heartfelt melodies, Nasibi’s music is deeply personal, blending vulnerability with emotional depth. He began his journey at the age of 10, writing his first song, and in 2022, he officially launched his professional career with the release of his debut single, Nakungoja. Through his music, Nasibi strives to create soundtracks that resonate with his audience, offering a glimpse into his soul and personal experiences. His debut EP Into The Nasiverse is a brave testament to self-expression, where he chose to share stories that reveal his vulnerabilities, making it a project that truly reflects his essence as an artist.
Briefly describe who Nasibi is?
Nasibi is a Afro-Rnb singer songwriter, recording and performing artist here in Nairobi He considers himself to be an extraordinary songwriter with the ability to pen down amazing melodies.
Can you share with us how your musical journey began? What influenced you to pursue music as a career?
My journey began when I was pretty young. I have always had a musical ear and have always enjoyed music. I wrote my first song when I was 10 years old and I have been on and on ever since. I began my professional music career in 2022, when I released my first single, Nakungoja. Music for me began as a way of expressing myself in ways I couldn’t with words. I remember most of my memories through music and I strive to also create music that will be the soundtrack to my audiences lives.
You’re often seen performing with a guitar. What made you fall in love with the guitar as your instrument of choice?
It’s a funny story, I first wanted a guitar because I thought it was cool and at the time wanted to sing a song by Jason Mraz – I’m yours, to a girl that I really liked, I was 14 at that time, I never really started playing it until I was 19.
What are some of the challenges and successes you’ve encountered while navigating the Kenyan music industry?
I have received massive support from my fans and fellow artists, it really has been a blessing. One of the major challenges is the perception of Kenyan art and Kenyan artists as well as a system that can help with artist development especially for upcoming artists.
Your EP Into the Nasiverse has been receiving a lot of attention. What inspired the EP, and what was the creative process like behind it?
I just wanted to let people know who Nasibi is and what my art is all about. I wanted to share a catalog that people can listen to and say that they actually know me as a person. It was a very tasking project to do as it was my first project, there were songs that I was scared to share and they never made it to the EP. I sat and thought of all of the things that I was scared to share and that’s exactly what I shared. It’s okay to be vulnerable and it’s okay not to be okay.
Two songs, I.L.Y.T featuring Kinoti and Kitanda Baridi, have become fan favorites. What’s the story behind these tracks?
These two tracks wouldn’t have been here if it wasn’t for the power of collaboration, I.L.Y.T was Kinoti’s song at first before he gave it to me and then later on we decided that it would do really well as a collaboration. Kinoti and I poured our hearts out during the writing of I.L.Y.T during one of our writing sessions and I instantly knew that I wanted it in my EP
In July 2022, a friend of mine texted me and told me to write a song about Kitanda kukuwa baridi, and coincidentally, kitanda changu kilikuwa baridi ajab! So that’s exactly what I did and Kitanda Baridi was born.
How did it feel performing songs from the EP during your listening party for your audience? Can you share a bit aboutthat experience?
It was magical, It warmed my heart when people were singing along and enjoying the songs. It’s why I do it, I do it for you, my fans. I was so happy to see my fans pulling up to support and even artists that are bigger than me coming to support and even perform (Kinoti and Modest Chabari) . It honestly is a massive blessing.
Are there any specific venues or events where you’d love to perform before the end of this year?
Yes, I would love to be at Folk Fusion and Sol Fest. Out of the many these are the top 2
What future projects or plans do you have lined up for the rest of the year?
Hehe hii nitawacha mshuhudie wenyewe. All that i can tell you is that you will be surprised.
