“A leader of Kenyan and East African contemporary Indie music, King Kerbyis a maverick in profound individual expression”
DEEDS MAGAZINE (UK)
Multidisciplinary Nairobi-based artist King Kerby shares his largely-awaited deluxe album with the December-helmed ‘Saba’ album.
The opus ‘Saba (The Deluxe)’ is the original’s second installment and features an additional seven tracks.
The entire project is produced, mixed and mastered by multi-award winning South African producers Zino D (known for Nasty C’s “SMA” featuring Rowlene) and LD Beats. The two are also anchor sound architects on Nasty C’s last album, ‘I Love It Here’ – distributed by Def Jam, Universal Music Group.
Cuts such as “Deuce” alongside fast-rising South African rapper and performer Ta’Eish dropped earlier in February receiving high acclaim from South African tastemaking blogs such as Zkhiphani.
Silky cuts such as “What You Want” alongside singer and vocalist Rachel Kendi were then released accompanied by visuals shot and chopped by late Nairobi video director Tilu The Creator aka The Retrogod.
Tropical house themed “Leeches” would then follow as well as the militarian “Niko Order” and the precursor, “At The Peak”. King’s work ethic has been hailed countless times as well as his penchant for producing high quality music that can serve as a reflection of an avant-garde indie Nairobi music scene itching to glow in the global music scene.
“I’m excited to be able to finally share the whole vision for Saba, and create room for upcoming projects to show more growth. We are creating thick and fast, evolving thick and fast into what our ideal sound, identity and global language is,” Kerby states.
Kerby who has quickly become one of Nairobi’s indie music and art contingent leaders and voices is ecstatic to be sharing the work that is a result of a long stay in Cape Town. He will also be performing the records in an intimate live set-up at The Snowball Studios, Nairobi to his beloved fans and community on the 15/6.
“The thought process for the live show is to transport people deeper into the ‘Saba’ realm. A space of perfect imperfection and realness rather than fabricated aesthetic that lacks human depth, substance, warmth and compassion.”
