Lyrical maestro, performing renegade, and fast-rising music powerhouse Groovy Jo has revealed her next single off her highly anticipated sophomore solo project, Pressure, is the Afropop tinged single, “Logo”. The single follows the rapid feel-good song “Today”.
“Logo” sees wordsmith Groovy Jo change her tune from her now-esteemed and highly associated grittiness and sexually-liberated persona. “Logo” encompasses being crazy in love! This club banger is all about having that intense love for someone that in more ways than one can seem a bit insane. This type of love wants you to be right next to your partner at all times just to show the world that his logo is ‘taken’ and not available.
“One of the few female rap artists associated with Shrap, her flow, lyrical precision, and refusal to self-censor defines her growing catalogue. She is frank and outspoken about her sexuality and her desire while still commanding respect as a lyrical savant and dynamic rap artist.” NATIVE MAG
“Logo was kind of effortless as it came from an emotional part of me; I thought I was falling in love with and it came so naturally” Groovy Jo opens up.
Tapping frequent collaborator Lemario who has worked on “Ego”, “No Attitude”, “Vile Unakaa”, “Trip” and others, Groovy Jo absolutely takes a different turn in terms of sonics taking up a smitten vibe, glistening keys, subtle kicks, groovy snares, and a stark bassline giving the track a croony mood, club ambience, and snuggly complexion.
Groovy Jo is also inventive, comparing her romance with her love interests’ to be like that of Superman characters Clark Kent and Louise Lane.
Her desire is for her lover to be around her like a “Logo” among countless references.
“I wish a btch would try me or my ngga venye naskia, I’m never down with pretense, I just treat them like past tense, like woah and back then, we Super, I’m Lois Lane, he my Clark Kent.” She intimates before straddling into the infectious chorus.
Groovy Jo’s cadence, crisp delivery, and showy rap dexterity are on display as she activates her rap on the second verse, setting off the track with punchline after another.
“It’s different cause it shows my more vulnerable side, the first tape was me coming out trying to prove myself as an artist in the industry. I wanted to come with a force and this one is a bit toned down, as I wanted to express my emotional and more vulnerable side” Groovy Jo says.
The record also comes off Groovy Jo working with sports powerhouse NIKE on a cypher:
“It was awesome. I got to interact with so many amazing people, it was such an incredible experience. Hope to work with them again!”
Additionally, she was brought out by “Angela” hit-maker Boutross at his debut performance at the Boiler Room x Ballantines True Music Studio showing at The Mall, Westlands, Nairobi.
