A rapper, a songwriter, an entertainer, and a very fun person to be around is what sums up who Yaro B. Having been in the music industry for two and half years now, Yaro B has finally decided to release his first studio album ‘ABUGAS’ (ALWAYS BELIEVE U GOOD AT SOMETHING) on the 8th of July. The EP will also feature various talented musical artist. In this interview Yaro B gives us something brief about himself, his musical journey and his latest EP.

Who is Yaro B? What is the story or meaning behind your name?

Yaro B, is a rapper, songwriter, entertainer, and a very fun person to be around. So, when I was a toddler, as I’m always told, I really liked playing around.  So my aunt decided to give me the nickname Baba Yaro. Which is from a former  Nigerian footballer “Celestine BabaYaro”. That’s how the name “Yaro B” was made, and I also wanted a name that people can relate to, or be familiar with.

How has your journey been thus far since you started making music?

I gotta be honest, it has been 2 and a half years since I started my music career. The journey has had its ups and downs, disappointment, and flop projects, but on the bright side. There are actually more wins as compared to losses. For that, I am really grateful.

Can you share with us your creative process?

I don’t have a specific creative process, sometimes I just wake up with moods, to actually spit a few bars. Other times I might just be listening to rap songs, and I hear a unique line or bar, and I start making rhymes with it, next thing I know it’s a full song. Sometimes it just comes from inspiration from the things I go through, and hear from the streets. But I try to make music that people actually relate to. P.s. I don’t make music that people want me to make, it comes from within me. But, it has to be relatable.

What artist has been influential on your sound?

First of all, I got my own unique sound.  What I can say is that I get inspiration from other rappers when it comes to things like learning how to rhyme, how to flow swiftly with a beat and ensuring my words are in the right parts of the beats like claps and snares. But generally, I get inspiration from rappers from the 90s and 2000s. Oh, I also get inspiration from a few Kenyan rappers too.

What inspired the creation of ABUGAS?

Well, most people don’t know, but my real name is Abuga, so I always have this book from High School which I used to practice how to make rhymes and also acronyms for names. So, I bumped into one acronym from the book, A.B.U.G.A.S (Always Believe U Good At Something). So, I was chilling one day at the place I used to do a part-time job, and I was like, I need to give my fans a bigger project this time. Not just a single. ABUGAS is a self-titled EP. Inspired by Eminem, his sophomore album is a self-titled Album (Marshall Mathers LP). Haha! Eminem actually plays a big role in my rap journey. I have learned a lot from him by just listening to his songs.

Does the EP have some features of other musical artists, or is it just you?

Yeah, the EP has got 3 Artists featured in it. The song “No Pressure” ft Ivoni, and T.L.A.T (Top Like A Topic) ft Ephreign and Mistic Mic and they all understood their job.

Can we expect a video soon from your EP?

Well, for now, I’m just trying to deal with what I can handle. What I can say, is that the EP is a Classic, even casual listeners will love it. I can’t promise a music video but then again, I don’t wanna say it won’t have a music video.

What message would you like your fans to get from listening to your EP?

The EP is touching on a limit of topics. But the main message of the EP is “Always believe in yourself, don’t let the pressure of social media get to you, you gotta reassure yourself you are the best and actually believe it…

What’s one message you’d like to give your fans?

It’s never too late to chase your dreams, your dreams are bigger than your fears. I also wanna share this quote, “Never A Failure, Always A Lesson”. Spread love.

What’s next for you after your first EP?

Now that is a very good question. I really don’t like to talk about my plans unless I’m following through with them. What people need to know. No more free things. Bei imepanda!! I am Yaro B, and I’m just getting started.
