ARTIST TO WATCH: MISTIC MIC

Mike Nguvasu popularly known as Mistic Mic is a Kenyan-born artist who has specialized his craft in Hip-hop/Trap music. His interest in music sparked at a very young age inspired by the South African rapper Nasty C. He recorded his first song in 2019 and since then had gone ahead to release several singles which have some traction for him in his music career. Despite all this Mistic Mic believes that with the release of his EP album Sicko Season he’ll get to inspire/educate many youths out there as his album talks about his life struggles, achievements, and vision. We caught up with the young artist via mail as we got to talk about his upcoming projects and his music career.

Mike Nguvasu popularly known as Mistic Mic is a Kenyan-born artist, raised in Ruaraka. Mistic mic is 22 years old and has had a high interest in music from the tender age of 10. He is the second born in a family of 4

What first got you into music?

My interest in music started way back in the days when I was in class 5, I used to listen to some of the greats like 2pac and Biggs. The first inspiration that got me to start writing my own music was Nasty C. This was in the year 2016 when he dropped his first album Bad Hair. This inspired me and I felt like I could also write songs to express my feelings. My first studio song ever recorded was in 2019

How would you describe your music?

My music is mainly based on my life experiences and the desires I have as an artist. My music inspires many youths out there who feel like giving up but get the motivation from my songs. However, I also do club bangers and Trap music which may be used as hype music in events

How did your stage name Mistic Mic come about?

Mistic was my hood name from way back. My friends used to call me Mistic since I used to be so mysterious.

What is your main inspiration when you’re making music?

My greatest inspiration when doing my music is Nasty C. He gives me the motivation to keep pushing hard in my music journey.

Describe your creative process when you write new music?

I’ll first listen to the instrumental, then come up with a melody with different flows, listen again to the instrumental and finally the lyrics will just start to pop up in my head. Every song has a different feeling depending on the instrumental.

Let’s talk about you’re the amazing singles you dropped this year ‘Kipchoge’, ‘Benz’, and ‘Bossed Up’. What inspired you to come up with those amazing projects?

KIPCHOGE was inspired by our marathon legend Kipchoge Keino when he won a marathon in less than 2 hours, BENZ was and will always be my dream car that’s why a song to it for manifestation did.

We’re aware you’re also releasing an EP this November dubbed ‘Sicko Season’. How’s the process coming along and what’s the EP about?

The SICKO SEASON EP has been a success despite a few challenges. First, finding the producers for recording the audio was a bit challenging but I thank God I met TATTUH MILES and REI SALMA who did their best to give me the best quality tracks. The SICKO SEASON EP talks about my life struggles, achievements, and visions I have for the future.

Have you featured any other music artist on the EP or was anyone else involved in writing, recording, or producing the songs?

The EP has featured severally artists who have always stood by me through my whole music journey, this is, Ephreign, Tizaface, Orioh Madrizlah, and Oluoch.

What’s the biggest highlight of your career thus far?

The biggest highlight in my music career thus far is my upcoming EP called SICKOSEASON.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

The media playlist. I would replace it with 75% of Kenyan content.

What is one message that you would like to give your fans?

Hard work beats talent but with both, it’s a double success.

What’s next for you?

Going international, that is doing collaboration overseas and shows from abroad to increase my creativity and learn more about music.
