We linked up with the up& coming singer via mail to get to know more about her and what she has install as continues in her musical journey.

Kindly share something about Cera Kimani?

I am an up & coming singer/ songwriter based here in Nairobi. I make multi-genre music ranging from Lo-fi to R&B. I started making music from a young age but decided to pursue it seriously from August this year (2022) when I released my first single ‘You  Lie’.

What first got you into music?

I honestly don’t remember a time when I wasn’t in love with music. My whole life it’s just been there and I’ve always known it’s important to me.

Who/What inspired you to make music?

I got back into songwriting during the Covid period. There wasn’t much to do as we were all stuck inside and like most people I needed a hobby to keep me entertained. So I guess the pandemic inspired me to make music again.

What draws you to your preferred genre?

I like hearing melodies and harmonies in the music I listen to. I’m drawn to songs that aren’t overproduced. Where you can listen to the raw talent and emotion in someone’s voice. So I carried that into my own music, and I like calming music.

Describe your creative process when you write new music?

First I have to come up with a melody that I like, then produce the beats. After I think about what I want to write about, it’s usually an emotion or situation I’ve experienced, then I write down the lyrics. This usually takes a couple of months.

What is your current music project ‘You Lie’ all about?

‘You Lie’ is about our childhood. My friends and I always talk about situations in our lives and how they affected us in the long run and ‘You Lie’ is just a summary of all of that. It’s about what it feels like being the Golden child from my perspective.

What was your purpose or goal when creating this project?

I don’t really think I had a goal for this song. I just wanted to talk about my experiences and if people relate to that then that would be a bonus.

How do you balance your music with other obligations?

I don’t, I have no sense of balance at all. I could go weeks without writing or even thinking about writing music; other times, that’s all I do. I should start working on that.

What motto or good advice do you live by?

Never say Never

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician?

The outcome, I love listening back to projects I’ve made and being like, “ooh!! I made that”

Do you plan on collaborating with other artists in your upcoming projects?

Yes, I definitely do. Once I get the time and create a balance in my life, I will.

What is one message you would give to your fans?

Thanks?? Thank you for listening to my music.

What’s next for you?

I don’t know. I tend to take one day at a time.

Mark
