Apple Music today announced the latest artist to be featured in its new Up Next artist development program in East Africa, is Tanzanian rapper and songwriter, Young Lunya.
“It’s such an honour to be included in Apple Music’s Up Next program,” he tells Apple Music. “It means a lot to East African Hip-Hop.”
In just two short years, rapper Young Lunya has amassed an impressive following and cultivated a devoted listenership courtesy of his distinct style and flow. Pouring his personal experiences and emotions into his lyrics and music has allowed him to create a unique body of work that addresses the day-to-day realities of living in Tanzania and as a result, has seen him emerge as a voice for a new generation.
On his debut album Mbuzi (2024), the Swahili word for “goat”, Young Lunya’s storytelling ability is on full display as he traverses themes that range from gang violence and police brutality, to the highs and lows that come with being a superstar rapper.
