1.Who is DJ KICKIE?
DJ Kickie is a deep lover of music,a family man and a pure mathematician by proffesion. He loves music and this led him to the Dj scene inevitably. He has been in the scene since late 2017 after his graduation. He plays all genres of music and is just an addict to good music,a profound dj and a sound engineer.
2.How did it all start for you?
At first, I used to be a dancer professionally I have featured in several popular songs as a dance “Thitima kymo and Stiga” “kansoul mabega’…just to mention a few. I used to be very popular but I did not find content in that. I used to collect music over time therefore I just used to make dance mixes for dance groups and I found my fit in it. I attended Perfect vibes Dj academy as the first student and learned the art in the best hands of my teacher…from that time the sky has been the limit.
3.Who is your biggest inspiration? / Who do you have a lot of respect for?
My biggest inspiration is the person I have come to be….over the years I have perfected skills I used to dream of achieving, stepped on stages I only dreamt of. I have a lot of respect for my folks that supported my initiative to learn the art professionally.
4.What single night out has been the most memorable for you? As a DJ?
There was a night I was contracted to play for a private wedding after-party and the bride collapsed after a lot of dancing….that one I will never forget.
5.Are you able to share any of your secret tricks with us?
The secret is to push yourself to become a better version than you were the previous day.
6.What is one mistake you see a lot of up-and-coming DJs making? / What advice would you give to aspiring DJs?
I used to think that since I had some skills in being a bedroom Dj, I did not need to go to a Dj academy but after I attended one I noticed that there was so much more to learn…nowadays bedroom DJs call themselves full DJs and that is where they go wrong. I would advise anyone aspiring to be a Dj to enroll in an academy and get professional mentoring for them to play on international standards comfortably. Moreover, many people have different reasons for joining the scene but at school, you would get a definite purpose.
7.Where do you think the scene is headed? One year from now? Five years from now?
We have witnessed more entertainment spots, radio stations coming up in the recent past and more are on the way, therefore, this is creating room for more professionals to occupy therefore in the near future …the scene will be more rewarding for those that do it right.
8.If you could eternally be stuck in one year’s music scene, which year would it be?
In 2010 I collected most of my personal favorite music across most genres so I think that year was fire🔥.
9.What is one subgenre you think doesn’t get the attention it deserves?
I personally feel that EDM music is timeless and all-time…I believe if it gets the attention it deserves it would do better and the entertainment scene would really grow.
10.What is it that you love about the scene? Your subgenre’s scene?
The scene allows you to meet different people with different struggles and preferences therefore you get to learn the psychology of different kinds of people.
11.What is something that bugs you about the DJ scene?
Unlike other forms of art, the DJs do not really support or help each other most renowned DJs are very mean with opportunities even when they are not using them for their personal gain. That is something that really bugs me.
12.What is your opinion regarding the difference between old-school DJing where everything was restricted to vinyl and modern DJing where most tracks are never put on any physical medium before or after release?
Djying has really evolved over the years right now it is easier to access tracks just by a click, unlike old-school djying where you had to access vinyls which is a good thing but the basics of the skills always remain the same..distribution of mixtapes is also easier now.
13.Do you think this has hurt the exclusivity of having a certain sound? A DJ’s ability to have a “unique” style? Is having your own style separate from all the other DJs out there even important in modern DJing?
In the past, people used to love specific genres of music and used to research on specific subgenres extensively….but nowadays new subgenres are coming up every day…Therefore for a Dj to remain relevant and get rewarded it is inevitable to be versatile.
14.What is one track that never gets old for you no matter how many times you hear it?
Well, I have several of this …but for me and most of my audience have heard Queen by Longombaz over and over, over the years but it is still a banger up to now.
15.What is one track that got popular that you can’t stand?
There is this track by the name “Jerusalema” it is the most requested track on my play hours in my career I actually can’t stand hearing it again.
