How would you best describe yourself?

A human being, an artist, a scientist, Ronin. Astronaut on a bad day.

How did the stage name Flier come about or is it your real name?

Flier means message-bearer. A piece of paper bearing a message/an announcement of coming events/information on specific items/directions/instructions/recipes, etc.

The paper should never be esteemed higher than the message it bears for in and of itself, the paper has no value.

How and when did you make your debut in the music industry?

I’m not sure I know what ‘industry’ is but, I just woke up one day and I was really tired of my procrastinating ways and my perfectionist crutch. So, I wrote a song to a guitar loop in less than 20 minutes, asked my friend Baraka to play Sax on it. I added some chemical X, mixed and uploaded it unto YouTube the very same day and Voila! Here we are.

Is music what you always wanted to do while growing up?

Pretty much… It was either that or become rich and famous. Still working on the latter.

Which was your first song to record?

I can’t remember but I’m sure it was a rap song.

How would you describe your music?

It’s my music. Everything is all me… and just like me, it’s always changing. Well, change has a negative connotation. I like the word evolving better. Right now, I think it has just discovered fire.

How did your latest single Run Deputy Run come about?

It was inspired by Bob Marley and the Wailers’ 1973 hit, “I shot the Sheriff.” Now that the statute of limitations ran out, I thought it was the perfect time to fess up to what I did and also answer one of music’s oldest questions. Who shot the Deputy? I’m proud to say… It was I.

Where do you “find” your ideas?

Everything around me. Life experiences, movies, Anime, friends, work etc.

What’s your purpose/goal when you create music?

To be honest and my most authentic self.

You’re also a songwriter? Walk us through how you go about writing a song? Do you have a melody in your head?

All songs are not created equal. Some start off with a melody, others come in full clear stanzas and sometimes I have to sit with the music for days before I can even get the subject matter.

What inspires your writing? Do you draw inspiration from other music, or other media?

The desire to tell stories and create new sounds.

Which artist would you like to collaborate with in your next music project?

Kanye West. lol

What good advice do you live by every day?

‘Continuous improvement’

How do you feel the internet has impacted the music business?

It’s made everything easier. From distribution to engaging with fans of your music to Analytics.

What would you be doing right now if it wasn’t for your music career?

Living life, spending time with the people I love, hitting up a few restaurants, catching up on my anime, some chill vibes… You know, the uzh. I’d also do a likkle poetry on the side.

What is one message you would give to your fans?

Thanks for listening! 🙏🏾

What’s next for you?

The same thing I do every night, EpicPulse Magazine: try to take over the world!
